Battersea Cleaners is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across all cleaning services, including domestic cleaning, commercial cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning and specialist tasks.

We recognise that effective health and safety management is an integral part of delivering high quality cleaning services. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries, work-related ill health and damage to property through planning, training, supervision and continuous improvement.

Our Health and Safety Objectives

The core objectives of this policy are to:

Management Responsibilities

The management of Battersea Cleaners has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. Management will:

Provide and maintain safe working systems, equipment and methods of work for all cleaning tasks. Conduct and regularly review risk assessments covering typical and specialist cleaning activities. Ensure that employees are informed about the findings of risk assessments and the control measures in place. Employee Responsibilities

Every employee of Battersea Cleaners has a duty to work safely and to consider the health and safety of others. All staff are required to:

Follow all health and safety instructions, procedures and safe systems of work provided by the company. Use equipment, machinery and cleaning agents only as instructed and with care. Wear and maintain any personal protective equipment supplied for their role. Report any hazards, defects, accidents, near-misses or unsafe practices to their supervisor as soon as possible. Cooperate with management in the implementation of this policy, including attending training and safety briefings. Refrain from any behaviour that could endanger themselves, colleagues, clients or members of the public.

Training, Information and Supervision

Battersea Cleaners provides ongoing health and safety training for all employees, appropriate to their role and level of responsibility. This includes:

Induction training for new starters, covering general safety rules, emergency procedures and safe working practices. Task-specific training for activities such as carpet cleaning, window cleaning, high-level dusting and end of tenancy deep cleans. Guidance on safe handling, dilution, application and disposal of cleaning chemicals. Training in correct manual handling techniques, including lifting, carrying and use of equipment such as vacuum cleaners and mops. Regular refresher training and toolbox talks to reinforce good practice and address any new or emerging risks.

Supervisors are responsible for monitoring work to ensure that safety procedures are followed and that employees are competent and confident in their duties.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Before starting work at any site, Battersea Cleaners undertakes a suitable and proportionate risk assessment. This may include checking access routes, security arrangements, lighting, ventilation, electrical points and any shared areas.

From these assessments, safe working procedures are developed, which may cover:
